Faculty Workshop Linz
Our first Faculty Workshop took place in the vibrant city of Linz, Austria, on March 5–6, 2025. Designed as a collaborative milestone for the project, the event brought together all project partners to initiate a shared vision, exchange practices, and define strategic directions.
On 5–6 March 2025, partners from the SCALExD project convened in Linz for a vibrant two-day faculty workshop, hosted by the University of Arts Linz. The workshop provided a platform for in-depth academic exchange, collaborative planning, and the articulation of shared pedagogical objectives across architecture, design, technology, and sustainability. The program included site visits to the Tabakfabrik Linz, an emblematic example of industrial transformation into a centre for innovation and creative industries, and to the university’s departments of Industrial Design, Architecture, and the respective workshops. These visits
contextualized the Faculty Workshop discussions within a dynamic local environment of education, experimentation, and applied research.
The working sessions focused on:
- Presentation of each institution’s research areas and pedagogical approaches
- Strategies for implementing flipped classroom models and video-based instruction
- Definition of core competencies and learning outcomes for future student workshops
- Identification of shared tools, methods, and materials to ensure coherence across the partner institutions
- Coordination of content development and planning for upcoming workshops and the curriculum structure
Special attention was given to the integration of advanced technologies—including computational design, digital fabrication, and human–robot interaction—into pedagogical frameworks that promote interdisciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and sustainable design practices.
The workshop contributed to the development of a common educational framework. Its outcomes will inform the next phases of the SCALExD project, including curriculum development, content production, and the implementation of collaborative teaching formats and student workshops.
